My Pretty Pillows

My keto diet consists of many things to keep me on track and nothing low carb is off the table for me but even though I am not eating breads, pasta , starches, sugar, high carb vegtables and fruits you still can not go crazy and eat tons of low carb items just because it is low carb. So that means no...I am not eating bacon for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I might do a hard boiled egg for breakfast, or bullet coffee, or egg wrap. For my meat I choose to do mostly fish and seafood and chicken in my dinner plans, but hamburger and steak is definitely something I will enjoy as well. I will use store bought keto snacks, this is for the harder days when I just want something in my purse. I do this sparingly!! When it comes to most my snacking, I make myself a charcuterie board for my husband and myself to enjoy. This keeps me on track a lot!
My Tips ~
do not eat a lot of cheese
do not eat tons of red meats
do use pork rinds, broccoli, cauliflower, celery to help snacking cravings if needed with a favorite dip
do bring your own low carb wraps out to eat to enjoy fajitas or other items you can use a wrap for to help you stay on track while dining out
do not drink a lot of adult beverages, as calories add up too with drinking.
do use artichokes to help get some fiber in, specially if you are having tummy issues (probably from too much cheese!) or chia seeds in a smoothie as chia seeds have good fiber as well
do drink recommended amounts of water daily!
do not eat a lot of keto friendly store bought snacks and do not focus on trying to trick your brain with lot's of keto friendly make it yourself substitutes every day to replace breads. You can make fat bombs, chaffles, etc... just do not focus on curbing your sweet tooth with too many alternative 'sweet' options. You will be surprised how much your sweet tooth goes away on Keto. So my advise is to not go crazy trying to make every keto pie, cookie, fudge, cake, etc recipe out there. I feel that would set me up for failure if I did that. Of course holiday time, special occasion, rare treat, enjoy yourself with making something yummy just do not count on it for daily diet survival.
List of foods I use on my Keto Low Carb Diet
Eggs (Hardboil eggs for a quick breakfast grab or egg wrap)
Fish & Seafood (I do mostly shrimp, tuna steaks, and salmon...and if I catch fish up at the cabin, I will do trout too! Yum!!)
Meat and Poultry (all)
Cheese (all cheese, including feta)
Nuts and Seeds - check carbs (I mostly use almonds or pumpkin seeds)
Coffee and Tea (unsweet) I add a tablespoon or two of heavy whippping cream or half-n-half, and kerrygold butter if I am doing a bulletcoffee
Healthy Oils (I use Olive Oil, great for cooking and salads)
Dark Chocolates (rarely eat this)
Cocoa (use for fat bombs uses)
Unsweetened Coconut (for fat bomb uses, or coconut shrimp)
Monk Fruit Sweetener (occasionally for my ice coffee treat)
Full fat dressings (check carb count, or just use oil and vinegar dressing) I eat a lot of salads!
Bulletproof Coffee
Low Carb Charcuterie Boards - Great as a lunch or snack
Celery (ummm...add cream cheese)
Heavy Whipping Cream (1-2 tablespoons in my coffee, I add no artificial sweetener to my coffee, just a little cream)
Half n Half Cream (if I do not have heavy whipping cream, I substitute 1-2 tablespoons in my coffee, I measure this!)
Reddiwhip (I use this maybe twice a week on an ice coffee as a treat, I will do coffee, ice, 1 monk fruit packet, and a little swirl of readywhip on top)
Tomatoes (check carbs)
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Pork Rinds (These taste really good heated) And let's you enjoy low carb dips, make nachos for dinner and more! See my flavor choices below.
Almond Flour / Coconut Flour - for making various low carb keto breads, chaffles
KETO SMOOTHIE IDEAS
I definitely use keto smoothies to keep me on track and they are great for getting in some needed fiber as well while on a low carb diet.
Cottage Cheese (my husband loves cottage cheese so though I don't usually eat this I will have an occasional spoonful to enjoy as we always have this in the fridge. Gordon foods has the absolute best cottage cheese!)
Low Carb Yogurts (can use to make a smoothie) I love Ratio brand vanilla and strawberry, try it! I find them at Meijers/Krogers
Berries (blackberries or raspberries, check carbs on berries) Use mostly for occasional smoothie. I get these frozen.
Zucchini, Peppers, Asparagus
All lettuce, Kale, Spinich
Avocado
Artichokes (good fiber source!)
Mushrooms, Onions
Low Carb Wraps - In Moderation, so many uses and good for a low carb sandwich, a hot cheesy wrap, or to make your own tortilla chips from for your favorite low carb dips. And I am not embarrased to admit that I will bring a couple wraps in my purse out to dinner and order fajitas, and use my own low carb wraps!
Store Bought Snacks - In Moderation
Butter - I like Kerrygold Irish Butter
Adult Drinks (If I am having a drink I will use the following below. Drinking effects me differently on Keto, so even one drink you may feel the effects, so use caution on Keto and having an adult beverage.
White Claw (watch your calories)
Red Wine ~ You will want a dry red wine such as Pinot Noir, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon
Michelob Ultra Beer (watch your calories)
Gin, Vodka, Tequila (low carb mixers would be sparkling water, flavored waters, diet sodas, heavy cream.
The only drink I usually enjoy and make during summer is either a sparking water with splash of vodka, fresh lemon slice and mint and or the same but with gin. I steer clear from diet sodas.
Here is a list of store bought Keto Snacks that I have found to be quite good. Please use snacks sparingly. While I know the benefit of grabbing a keto snack verse a bag of potato chips I use Keto Snacks as an occasional treat. Do not get use to them as a means to change your lifestyle. I just think that does not work in the long run.
