How to Propagate Lavender from Stems
Lavender is one of my favorite plants in the garden. Sometimes I think why don't i just have a whole garden full of just lavender? If you ever visit a lavender farm, you may think the same thing as you imagine all the pretty lavender you could be growing at home too. If you have just one established lavender plant you can easily create more from your lavender stems!
And best of all, it is free to do and you will benefit by more lavender. That makes me smile as you can use lavender for so many things, why not have a bunch of plants, right?
HOW TO:
Cut stems from your lavender plant with a sharp knife
Take off all the lavender leaves from the bottom and leave just the leaves on the top
You will want to slice off the side of the bottom of the stem so the root can start easier
put your lavender stem into your pot (terracotta pots are best to use) and put the stem all the way down into dirt till it reaches your left over leaves on top)
you can cover the pot with a zip lock baggy to create a green house effect if you like
Then it's just patience! Roots take time, and you can expect at least a month or so to go by. If any of your stems die, pluck that one out of your dirt. Transplant carefully into it's own pot. Plant outside in spring.
